About GWO/me

I got into roasting after tasting coffees from a few roasters who were working right on the edge of underdevelopment but still producing flavors that were clean and bright. Thanks to a generous local roastery that let me borrow their sample roaster and a bag of leftover green coffee, I quickly fell down the rabbit hole and bought my own – first a Kaffelogic Nano 7, then a Roest L100.

After loads of fafo and diving into the science of what happens when heat is applied to a coffee bean, I’ve settled on a base approach I enjoy. I still make small tweaks to refine the end result, and people who enjoy these very light roasts get to join in the journey – tasting, exploring, and sharing their experiences along the way.

GWO is just me. One person following his passion as a hobby. The goal is really about honing the hobby, making progress, and sharing the journey with others.

While it doesn’t roll off the tongue, I chose “GWO” because it has a personal meaning for me. I also like using it as an acronym that changes from time to time. Sometimes it’s something nerdy from the coffee world, sometimes it’s not. It’s just a way to keep things playful without taking myself too seriously, while still respecting the craft.

I hope you enjoy what I do!
