WoC recap, the P3000, and what went wrong last drop - Update #5 (28.06.2026)
Share
Just back from World of Coffee Brussels and wanted to share some updates.
World of Coffee
Friday was spent roasting and brewing at the Roest booth. A lot of challenges there with brewing setup and water but hopefully next time will be better. The other days were spent talking to roasters and producers - highlights for me were Joachim from Substance, Tong from Gout & Co, and Stephane from The Picky Chemist. Also spent good time with Kai Janson, David from Finca Sofia, and Wilford Lamastus, among others. Hoping this opens up sourcing more interesting coffees over the next year or two, including some origins and farms I haven't explored much yet.
Roastery setup
The P3000 ships from Norway next week, so it'll land here in a week or two. In the meantime I'm finishing the exhaust setup and the electrician still needs to sort some extra safety work on the three-phase system - both happening next week.
Also picked up an L200 Ultra at WoC - it wasn't planned this soon but happened. Plan is to use it for sampling and high-end lots, possibly running it alongside the L100 for next drop if I can replicate results on it, but it won't be my focus if it requires more effort since there are a bunch of changes between the machines. Two reasons it fits well: the L100 was bought before GWO existed so it never qualified as a business expense, and counterflow roasting lines up better with the P3000, so it'll help me ramp up faster once that lands. L100 stays in rotation until I'm fully settled on the 200 Ultra.
Last drop
Wanted to flag a few things that went wrong. The new packaging workflow combined with Shopify and Shipping label plugin caused issues - in one case a single order generated about a hundred shipping labels, others had a mix of 1, 2 and 12 labels and three people received fewer bags than they ordered. Those have been fixed and refunded, and the workflow's been improved. Small silver lining: better this happened on a smaller drop than it would have with the P3000 batches.
Next drop
Reminder: this will be the last L100 drop before I focus on the crowdfunding rewards and start prepping for P3000 drops with more bag quantities and availability. There's some fomo coffees in this drop to end with a bang so stay tuned!
Drop goes live Wednesday the 1st July @ 12:00 Amsterdam time.
